A quick post today on behalf of nostalgia, childhood, and all things delicious and inclusive.
Stacy Malinow, mother to a celiac Girl Scout, has started a petition to demonstrate the need for a gluten-free Girl Scout cookie. The companies responsible for baking the cookies have indicated that were there sufficient interest, they would consider adding this to the line-up.
There are 3.3 million Girl Scouts in the US, 132,000 of whom have food allergies — according to this Examiner. How heartbreaking, to think of a little girl selling cookies that she can’t even eat.
To sign the petition, click here. They’re aiming for 100,000 signatures, and we can all help them get there.
As for me, I hope we get a new, gluten-free Girl Scout cookie flavor ASAP and I hope it’s like the Samoa. Back in my gluten-full former life, that one made me weak in the knees.
